Instead, axioms define the meaning of technical terms or fundamental properties of matter and light, and the stated propositions are demonstrated by means of specific, carefully described experiments. Unlike the Principia, Opticks is not developed using the geometric convention of propositions proved by deduction from either previous propositions, lemmas or first principles (or axioms). In contrast, few readers of Newton’s time found the Principia accessible or even comprehensible. ![]() The book is a model of popular science exposition: although Newton’s English is somewhat dated, the book can still be easily understood by a modern reader. ![]() It was first published Read More in English rather than in the Latin used by European philosophers, contributing to the development of a vernacular science literature. Opticks differs in many respects from the Principia. ![]()

I was surprised that I liked the body horror aspect more than other parts of the story. ![]() The narration style was not for me & I think that when I eventually reread it, i'll understand the plot better. Overall, I did enjoy it although I will say it is one of the most unusual books i've ever read. ![]() I found it confusing at times but I think that other readers will LOVE the narration style. I also was very confused with the shift of perspective throughout. I found the narration style confusing & got a bit lost. I did find the ending satisfying but I was very confused. Part 3 picked up better but I liked the very end the most out of that section. Part 2 was my least favorite section, & I did not like it. I enjoyed part 1 & was shocked at the end. I like the connection between the event 10 years before, where the 4 guys were in the present, & the elk woman. A unique story that had great elements & body horror but, I got very confused with the narration & did not like the pacing. ![]() 6/28/2023 0 Comments Northanger abbey sparknotes![]() ![]() While their stories are unique, through a female narrative voice both women are able to situate themselves according to how they would like their readers to view them. Aphra Behn’s Oroonoko, tells the story of an African prince who becomes captured and forced into slavery in the British colony of Surinam in the West Indies, while Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey follows the life of her protagonist, Catherine, through her journeys at Bath and Northanger Abbey. Such was the case of two famous texts that are read through a female narrative voice, Oroonoko and Northanger Abbey. The decision to become a female author in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries was a daunting task in itself, never mind choosing to narrate your work from a female, personal perspective.
